Official Opening of Nightingale Primary Academy

Nightingale Primary Academy was officially opened on Thursday 11 June 2015.  The opening ceremony was performed by Mr Richard Pennycook, Chief Executive of the Co-Operative Group, and attended by the Lord Mayor of Leeds and the Deputy Lieutenant of Yorkshire, along with representatives from the various organisations who had been involved with the planning and building of the school.

Also present were Heads and staff from other Co-Operative Academy Trust Schools, Governors from both Nightingale and Oakwood Academies, as well as members of the Facility Management Company who will be taking care of the Caretaking and Maintenance of the building and equipment, along with parents and children of the school.

The event started with a performance from the Oakwood Choir, followed by a speech from Mr Frank Norris, Director of the Co-Operative Academy Trust (CAT) and then Mr Richard Pennycook performed the official opening and unveiling of the memorial plaque.  The Oakwood choir then closed the ceremony with another of their favourite songs.

Following the opening ceremony, Headteacher, Miss Rebecca Ingram, conducted a tour of the new building for the visitors which included a visit to the "Co-Op Market Stall", specially created for the day and manned by the children of Nightingale Academy.
